Celebrating Grace Scurr & the Power of Organization

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the trailblazing women who have shaped history, broken barriers, and paved the way for future generations. We also take special pride in honouring one remarkable woman: Grace Scurr, the woman behind the very first Filofax.

Grace Scurr - the woman behind the very first Filofax

The Woman Who Organized the Future

Grace Scurr was a secretary at Norman & Hill, the company that would later become Filofax. She didn’t just keep records; she kept them meticulously organised in a personal loose-leaf binder that she took home with her each night. When an errant bomb destroyed the company’s official files during the Blitz, it was Grace’s carefully maintained 'file of facts' organiser that saved the business.

Her foresight and dedication laid the foundation for the Filofax system, proving that organisation isn’t just about keeping track of details: it’s about resilience, vision, preparedness, and shaping the future.

Grace's Legacy: From Secretary to Chairman

Grace’s story didn’t end with saving the company. Her tenacity and skill earned her promotion to Chairman, a significant achievement for a woman in those times. Grace served until 1955, and her legacy continues to inspire us - proving that meticulous planning and record-keeping can change the course of history.

Empowering Women, One Page at a Time

Since then, Filofax has been a trusted companion for women across the world - entrepreneurs, creatives, professionals, and dreamers alike. A Filofax organiser is more than just a planner; it’s a space for ideas, goals, and aspirations. It’s where ambition meets action, where dreams are mapped out, and where history, both personal and professional, is written.

This International Women’s Day, we celebrate not just Grace Scurr but all the women who inspire us with their determination, innovation, and willpower. Whether you’re leading a company, managing a household, pursuing your passions, or carving out time for self-care, your journey matters - and being organised helps you take control of it.
